Yekmal e. V. was founded in 1993 by Kurdish parents, teachers and educators as a non-profit association with the aim of promoting participation and education, primarily for families with a migration history and of Kurdish origin. Since 1993, Yekmal e. V. has been a member of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband Berlin and a recognized youth welfare organization in Berlin.
Since the beginning, Yekmal e. V. has been committed to the education and social participation of families, the cooperation of parents with educational institutions such as daycare centers and schools, and multilingual education. Thus, parent education and the support of families and individuals are and were important aspects of the work of the association. Yekmal has set and continues to set clear priorities on the promotion of the Kurdish language and culture as well as on multilingual language development in Kurdish and German.
