Translating the future or the future of translation

Online translator workshop for children’s and youth literature

Children today read literature from all over the world as a matter of course. Translators play an important role in this process across language barriers, even if they themselves often remain invisible.

In a four-day online workshop serioes, we will explore the topic of translation and multilingualism in children’s literature in the context of Kurdish – with its specific challenges, limitations, as well as opportunities and necessities.

The goal of the workshops are to raise awareness of the structural difficulties of the Kurdish translation situation and to provide incentives for the encouragement and professionalization of (future) translators. We will include perspectives from experienced authors, translators and publishers.

The focus of the four-day workshop is on joint translation work in small groups, guided by experienced translators. The language combinations German-Kurdish and English-Kurdish are possible. The workshops will be framed by two panel events, which are open to the public and deal with different aspects of the topic of translation.
